Supratentorial localisation is a medical term that describes where an anatomical structure or pathological process (such as a tumour or haemorrhage) is located in relation to the tentorium cerebelli – a membrane formation in the brain that separates the cerebrum from the cerebellum.
What is supratentorial?
Supratentorial means ‘above the tentorium’ and refers to the part of the cranial cavity that contains the cerebrum with frontal lobes, parietal lobes, temporal lobes and occipital lobes. This anatomy is used to describe the localisation of tumours, haemorrhages and other disease conditions. Medical terminology must be translated with extreme precision.
